Foods That Block DHT

For centuries, people have been plagued with hair loss. While this is not a problem that carries serious threats to your life, it does, however, give blows to your ego. They say that because of hair, man is vain. With hair loss, that vanity will cause you to seek ways to treat it.

A lot of research has shown that hair loss is caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone or DHT. You may have heard of this, or may have not, but DHT is an offshoot hormone of testosterone in males. When this is produced, hair loss results as one of its effects. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that 95% of people who have lost their hair is due to the presence of DHT. Understandably, by blocking DHT, you will also stop hair loss.

There are a lot of ways of blocking DHT. One very popular method is eating foods rich DHT blockers and thus prevent hair loss. Many have found it to be effective as well as convenient.

So what are the foods that block DHT? Here are some of them:

Seashells

Zinc has been found out to be an effective blocker of DHT. There are a lot of foods rich with this mineral. The ones found out to have high amounts of it is seafood- especially the seashells.

Green Tea

This healthy drink not only blocks DHT, but it also promotes re-growth of hair. Aside from these, green tea also contains antioxidants that can help you get rid of the toxins in your body.

Soy

This has also been found to have naturally blocking properties against DHT.

Foods low in cholesterol has also been found to help prevent DHT. The main reason for this is that cholesterol produces 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the production of DHT. By eating foods low in cholesterol, you will be able to prevent the enzyme, and consequently DHT, from being produced. As a result, you will prevent hair loss.

Aside from foods that block DHT, plant extracts can also stop hair loss. You can apply these extracts directly, or mix them with your food.

Saw Palmetto

This is one that is considered to be very effective in preventing hair loss. Thorough research has found out that saw palmetto lowers the DHT levels in the body by blocking the enzyme 5-alpha reductase.

Another action that saw palmetto takes is blocking the DHT receptor sites of cells. By blocking the receptor sites, DHT will not be absorbed by the cells. In so doing, even if DHT is released, it will become useless since it will not be used.

Pygeum Extract

Research has shown that this extract effectively blocks the accumulation of cholesterol in the prostate glands. As a result, it will prevent 5-alpha reductase and then DHT from being released.

Emu Oil

Just like green tea, emu oil not only effectively stops DHT from being released, but it also promotes hair regrowth.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Said to be a remedy, this is effective in stopping the production of DHT.

Instead of paying large amounts of money for pills and injections and whatnots, you can, instead, let nature take its course by eating food or making use of nature’s products that not only nourishes you, but can also prevent hair loss.
